Work Life Balance – Dinner Time Tip

Today I wanted to give you a suggestion on how to make the dinner time a little bit more family-friendly. First thing is to get everyone at the table, if that is humanly possible. Set up the idea with the family that each person gets a turn to talk.

In some families, everyone is interrupting and there is a lot going on which is why a structured plan is important. You can set it up that while dessert is being enjoyed, everyone gets five minutes. Let’s say there are four of you, then that is only a 20 minutes for a big pay off, while you are all having dessert anyway.

You can use a timer if you need to add more structure – just some way to allow each member of the family to communicate, share and have equal time. It is a great self-esteem booster for young people – for kids who usually who get interrupted and told to be quiet and listen, for teenagers who aren’t used to being comfortable talking to their families. It’s a way to get things started even if you are just sitting around telling funny stories.

Please give it a try and let me know how it goes.
