Resiliency, Coaching and CHADD

Raising Resilient ChildrenI just returned from the 25th Annual CHADD Conference on ADHD in Crystal City, VA.  Kudos to the CHADD staff and volunteers for creating a great event!

My presentation this year was “Increase Resiliency and Well-Being with ADHD Coaching.”  The room was packed and the audience was curious and insightful.  I chose this topic knowing the importance of fostering resilience in young people with ADHD so they will be resilient, self-directed adults.  So, I was delighted to see that Robert Brooks, Ph.D., one of the leaders in the field of resiliency in children (along with Sam Goldstein, Ph.D.)  was our Saturday morning keynote presenter.  Dr. Brooks spoke about “The Power of the Mindsets: Nurturing Motivation & Resilience in Children with ADHD.” His words, stories and theories captured our attention, made us laugh and made us cry.  My brain was full of ideas on how to expand ADHD youth coaching to include more discussion and reading on resiliency, so stay tuned for changes to come.

Meanwhile, if you would like to start learning more right now, click on these web links for Dr. Brooks and Dr. Goldstein.

Wishing you a great week!
