We are all familiar with the proverb, “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. When we work all the time and don’t take time to relax, play, and enjoy ourselves, we are not living life in balance and can suffer the consequences. Stress, anxiety, fatigue, lack of focus and medical issues too numerous to list are just some of the problems caused by the “all work” mentality. As you launch back into your busy fall schedule please consider that your children need breaks too. Students who don’t get an opportunity to play and enjoy some “down time”, tend to have a higher level of burnout and are more likely to lose focus and motivation as the academic year progresses. As adults, we know the value, and the joy, of stepping away from our work, even if for just a short break, to take a walk, talk with a friend, listen to music or sit quietly with a warm cup of tea. Teach your children by example. Play with them and show them that play is not just for kids. Announce that you are taking a break and spend some quality time relaxing. I know this does not come easily for many and there are probably 100 reasons NOT to do this running through your head right now. Please, for the sake of your well-being and your children, make it happen. You (and Jack) will be glad you did! Need support to move forward? Contact us.
