As I finish up packing my laptop and my personal belongings for my night flight to Istanbul, I am struck by the realization that I started coaching youth with ADHD to meet the needs in my local community. Thanks to the tireless efforts of Elgiz Henden at IzKocluk and her Turkish coaching colleagues, I have the opportunity to share my expertise in ADHD coach training 5229 miles away from Washington, DC in my growing global community. WOW!
During my transition to coaching from my “former life”, I envisioned helping children and teens on a broad scale, even drawing a picture of a group of young people sitting together, sharing, laughing and making a connection with me, the coach. The drawing was simple and my plan was to make a difference in the lives of young people. Well, guess what? The best laid plans CAN get better! This trip is beyond any plan I have created thus far and I am opening my eyes, heart and mind to an even larger base of ADHD youth coaches worldwide. Youth with ADHD, EF and LD need support, the ADHD community is embracing coaching as a viable part of a solid treatment plan and I am ready to “step up the pace.”
I will post tidbits about my work in Turkey as time allows and share details when I am back at my desk. Meanwhile, take a look at our training programs and check out IzKocluk on Facebook and Twitter this week.
All the best,
